Reparations
The movement for reparatory justice is asking societies and institutions to acknowledge and address the continuing consequences of slavery, colonialism, and exploitation.
The debate extends far beyond financial compensation. It includes acknowledgement and apology, education, historical truth, return of cultural objects, land and development, institutional responsibility, and new relationships between countries and communities.
For BHC, reparations provide an important opportunity for conversation rather than a single prescribed answer. We want to explore different perspectives from Africa, the Caribbean, Britain, and the wider African Diaspora; learning from researchers, campaigners, institutions, and communities.
This section will bring together BHC conversations, articles, research, and links to current reparations initiatives.
