About Us

Black History Conversations (BHC) began in 2020 as an informal response to Black History Month and Black Lives Matter, bringing people together online to explore histories that are too often overlooked, misunderstood, or disconnected.

Since then, more than 60 conversations have brought together community researchers, academics, writers, artists, heritage organisations, and people simply wanting to learn more.

Our starting point was that Black History is shared history. We have explored connections between Africa, the Caribbean, Britain, and the wider world — including slavery and colonialism, resistance and emancipation, migration, culture, identity, and the continuing legacies of the past.

BHC is friendly, international, and open to different perspectives. Our conversations provide opportunities to share new research, personal and community histories, books, films, archives, and projects.

In 2026, we are relaunching BHC with a new programme of conversations and an expanding online resource.
