White Squall on the Land published 2013

Narratives of Resilient Caribbean People represents the synthesis of thinking about Caribbean Migration, and mental health. The book links the experience of the home community in the Caribbean to the experience of those who have continued the Caribbean migration process to England. The ongoing struggle against "white squall" a colloquial name for the hunger and deprivation that has plagued the people of the Caribbean for centuries. The book provides narratives of those who have remained at home and overcome the adversities through their educational opportunities and their willingness to make use of whatever possibilities are available. Then there are the narratives from the UK where the hoped for improvements expected from migration are dashed by racism, mental health challenges and a society which is hostile to the Caribbean migrant. In both cases those who overcome demonstrate remarkable levels of resilience.
